Helen E. Epes “Mook” was born to Gilbert and Bertha Epes on July 23, 1959 in Blackstone, VA. She departed this life on July 20, 2016 at Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA.
Helen joined Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life she worshipped at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA.
Helen was employed at Reiss Corporation in Blackstone, VA for seventeen years. She devoted many years to coaching girls and boys youth sports.
Helen was preceded in death by her mother Bertha Epes and two brothers, Dennis and Gilbert Epes. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving father, Gilbert Epes of Blackstone, VA; devoted sister, Ella Jones of Blackstone, VA; three brothers, Curtis Epes (Karen), Ray Epes and Kenneth Epes, all of Blackstone, VA; four loving aunts, Clara Willingham, Ruth Lansdown, Carrie Eppes, all of Blackstone, VA and Annie Lyons of Washington, DC; eight nephews, Nelson, Chezara, Curtis Jr., Robert Jr., Adrian, Gilbert, Christopher and Marcus Hill (whom she raised as her own); two great nieces, Naysha and Desiree; one great nephew, Chezara Jr.; devoted family friend and caregiver, Rosa Lawson; a host of kids that she nurtured, mentored and coached, including one special kid Christina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment to follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
