Obituary for Evelyn J. Phillips
Evelyn Johnson Phillips was born on February 18, 1934 to the late Willie and Clara Johnson. She was educated in Lunenburg and Nottoway counties. Evelyn was married to Russell L. Phillips Sr., who preceded her in death. She departed this life on May 14, 2018 at 5:32 p.m. in Farmville, VA.

Evelyn leaves behind eight children: Clara Jeanette Lewis, Russell L. Phillips Jr., Eugene Williams (Dianna), Christine Bennett, Brenda Carey (Clarence), Dorice Jackson (Arthur), Sherry Phillips and Jerry Phillips (Charlene); twenty-three grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren.

Evelyn began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses in the late 1960’s and her faith led her to symbolize her dedication to Jehovah on July 11, 1970. She loved Jehovah and every aspect of being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and demonstrated this in the way she lived her life. She loved going out in the ministry and spending time with the friends. She always wanted to go to the meetings and out in the field ministry, even when she was no longer able to do so. Evelyn never forgot that very important part of her life.

One thing she would say to any in attendance who doesn’t already know; come to know Jehovah, our Grand Creator as she did and you will never go wrong. (John 17:3, NWT) She would also say weep or mourn but not for long because she is resting in Jehovah’s memory. John 5:28,29 (NWT) says in part: “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out!” She had unwavering faith that she would one day, in the near future, be awakened from death to the promised New World, Paradise here on earth.
