Obituary for Elsie E. Maddux
Elsie Elizabeth Edmonds Maddux entered into eternal rest at Keswick Multi-Care Center in Baltimore, MD on Monday, May 29, 2017. Daughter of the late Ruby Edmonds and Wesley Williams, Elsie was born in Petersburg, VA on June 9, 1935.

Elsie was baptized at an early age at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Kenbridge, VA. She later joined Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church where she worked diligently on the Usher Board and the Hospitality Group.

On October 16, 1956 Elsie married the love of her life, Robert Louis Maddux. A few years later, Elsie and Robert moved to Baltimore, MD where they worked and lived for over twenty years. They moved back to Blackstone in July 1988 after Robert’s retirement. They enjoyed being back with family and friends. After Robert’s death in June 1991 Elsie stayed in Blackstone until 2012, at which time she moved back to Baltimore to be closer to her daughters.

Elsie was so well known in Baltimore and in Blackstone as a person who would help you in any way she could. She cooked meals for all occasions and made all family and friends feel welcome.

Elsie was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Rhoades (Tom Sam) and Edith Blackwell (Roy, Sr.); brother-in-law, Bazell Fitzgerald, Sr. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: two daughters, Rosa Edmonds Sells and Gertrude Vanessa Lassiter, both of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, Jamal Sells, Donald Lassiter, Jr (Jonai) and Vanita Lassiter; two great grandchildren, Donovan Lassiter and Bella Fenwick, all of Baltimore, MD; one sister Deloris Fitzgerald of Blackstone; one brother Eddie Edmonds (Christine) of Rawlings, VA; two brothers-in-law, Ashur Maddux (Lunette) of Blackstone, VA and Claiborne Maddux of Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services Saturday, June 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
