Obituary for Christine F. Willis
On Friday, September 15th, 2017 at the home of Earl Jr. and Christina Smith, the Lord our Savior welcomed His child, Christina Fowlkes Willis into her eternal home. On January 27, 1928, God blessed Fred and Lucy to have their daughter Christine, to be born and light up their home. Her daughter Joyce, preceded her in death September 27, 2016.
Teen, as she was affectionately called, was baptized at an early age and joined the Union Baptist Church in Crewe, VA. She attended and supported her church faithfully until her health declined and she was unable to attend.
Christine was educated in the Nottoway County Public School System where she graduated and went on to continue her education. She attended Cunningham’s School of Beauty Culture and received the degree of a Licensed Hair Stylist in 1959. She continued her studies by attending classes to update her skills. Teen also received certifications in other areas, which included seamtress, Family Violence, Parenting Skills, and she volunteered her services to the Nottoway County Department of Social Services. While volunteering, she would travel to schools in Amelia and Nottoway and counsel students with their varying concerns.
On August 6, 1960, Christine was united in Holy Matrimony to Clifford Willis, Jr. who preceded her in death. While married to Clifford, she had the opportunity to travel with him all over the United States and abroad. She loved to cook and invite family and friends to come over and enjoy her hospitality. She loved to host Pinochle games, play bingo and fellowship with her friends, Kathleen Love, Katherine Ward, Laurabelle Pollard, James and Barbara Miller and Bubba Jeter (deceased).
Christine leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted grandsons, Earl Jr. (Christina) and Carl (Michelle); great grandchildren, Earl III (JR), Deontre (DC), Kristen, Dajahna, Carl Jr.; nieces, Esther, Donna, Avis (Gregory), Ann, Laurie; nephews, Benjamin (Dora), Harold, Woodrow (Cassandra), Bruce (Patricia); in-laws, Robert Willis of Saulita, CA, Daisy Franklin of Baltimore, MD, Carrie Johnson of Petersburg, VA, Jean Lee (William) of Greenbay, VA. Teen had a special love connection for the Rather Family and even stayed over with Kathleen from time to time. She adored her caretaker, Mrs. Gold Wingo, who took her out in the community to interact with other senior citizens.
Funeral Services Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Burkeville. Interment Johnson Family Cemetery, Crewe.
