Obituary for Beatrice C. Fowlkes
On Friday, August 5, 2016, during the beauty of a summer day, Beatrice Campbell Fowlkes peacefully entered eternal rest in the comfort of her home. Daughter of Ella Campbell and Walter Jones, Beatrice was born on May 17, 1929 in Nottoway County.

At an early age, she was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour, joining Spring Hill Baptist Church. She attended Nottoway Public Schools. Beatrice married Dewey W. Fowlkes in July 1952 and to this union, four children were born.

For several years she worked in the cafeteria at Kenbridge Elementary School. Before her health began to decline, Beatrice was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and worked alongside her husband at his church, Cedar Creek Baptist. She took great pride in her service as a Deaconess and Missionary worker. Beatrice was a lifetime member of VFW Auxillary Post 5313 and could be found many Memorial Day weekends selling Buddy Poppies to remember fallen American Veterans.

Beatrice loved flowers, gardening and cooking for family and friends. She had a passion for wearing stylish “Sunday hats.” Beatrice never met a stranger in that she was giving and kind to everyone. She dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren with love and lessons about life.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Dewey W. Fowlkes; four sisters and two brothers. Beatrice leaves many to cherish fond memories of her. Her three daughters, Mary F. Smith, Bernice Harris (Maxie) and Tracey F. Jones; one son, Beverly C.
