Obituary for Arlene B. Carroll
Sister Arlene Boswell Carroll departed this life on September 20, 2016 at her home on Mann Street, Blackstone, VA at the age of 79. She was born on January 15, 1937 to Illinois and Frank Boswell, Sr.

Arlene was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1956. She was baptized at an early age and joined the Shiloh Dinwiddie Baptist Church.

Arlene worked faithfully in many ministries: Vice President of the Women’s Ministry, Secretary of the Missionary Ministry, Sunday School and served as a Senior Usher for many years. She loved to sing, and sang on many choirs: The Gospel Chorus, the Combine Choir and the Volunteer Choir. She worked with the Spring Hill Ushers’ Union Fellowship Planning Committee. Arlene bowled with the Nottoway Ladies League at Fort Pickett Lanes.

Arlene was employed at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, VA for 33 and 1/2 years. She was married to Charlie Carroll Jr. and had two step children, Sherry and Vincent.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Illinois Boswell, Sr.; a sister Sarah Wright; and her brother, Frank Boswell, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: three sisters, Patsy (James) Knight, Mary Gilcrest of Blackstone, VA and Ida (Morris) Hardy of McKenney, VA; one brother-in-law, Edward Wright of McKenney, VA; one sister-in-law, Martha Boswell of Blackstone, VA; three godchildren, Charles Wright, Charlene (Edward) Henderson and Miriam Gilcrest, a devoted niece, Sharon Streat, all of Blackstone, VA; devoted friends, Bessie Wilkins, Annie P. Coleman, Suzie Crawley and Bessie Stokes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Dinwiddie Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery
